Genesis 2:7 tells us of that enormously epic event that took place thousands of years ago:
“Then the Lord formed the human of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the human became a living creature.”
Breathing is synonymous with life. Breathing is our lifeline. So it stands to reason we should pay attention to the practice of intentional breathing. We react to stimuli and it can be either positive or negative. A healthy or unhealthy response. When we are concerned, frightened, sad, angry or overwhelmed, it affects the breathing chain. We will hold it in, gasp, hyperventilate. We don’t even realize we’re doing it.
Through research I’ve learned to intentionally breathe. Into the diaphragm, count to 5. Out through the nose. Imagine breathing in the very presence of God. His peace. The world continues to pulsate at a frantic pace however we are choosing a different frequency. One that is God-filled, hope-filled and life-filled.
Taking control of our breaths will reset our state of being and allow for measured thought processes once again. Breathing is a secondary response to our emotions. When we practice measured breathing, regardless of what is happening around us, we take our breath control back. Reign it in to where it belongs. In our control, not the world’s. We can even imagine that time and place when breath was first given. That first glorious stream of life-giving air.
Reflect:
What positive thing could you start in order to bolster your sense of peace? Start a book of positive intentions today. It will be something to read when the world threatens to steal your peace.
“Father of Possibilities, it’s a comfort to know that we can turn our faces to you any moment of the day. In you there is no darkness at all. Only light. Time in your presence creates a new space for us that is filled with light and life and possibility. I choose life today”.
